When calling customer service, after going through all the menus, leave a call-back number instead of staying on hold. On your turn they try calling, say, thrice five minutes apart, before you lose your position.
No wasting phone minutes. No shitty music. No patronizing messages about the caller’s importance. (Maybe one patronizing message at the end of the initial call.)

I have one too – play lottery while on hold. Customer keys in the number and every minute or so there is a drawing. Voice response system informs you of winning or loosing and announces new round.
Right, or following that thread to its logical conclusion, on-hold shopping.
